Diaspora - Open Source alternative for Facebook

When the largest social network site Facebook came under fire Regrading its privacy settings. The first "privacy-aware" social network was founded.This project is community-funded and there is only a small number of invited people in the site.  

The technical experts questioned that will this new social network site can challenge the established websites like Facebook, Twitter now the Google plus. Diaspora officials says that they begin adding more & more people in the next coming weeks.

They also added that By taking this new step, they will be able to identify the problems with  performance quickly and also work on the new  features more easily. In response to feedback from the user's they will continue in refining the new social website .

Regarding the Security

Diaspora provide users to put control over the information that they share on social networks with there friends.The project allows people to run there own Diaspora server. so it will help decentralizing the service. As we know that the social sites like Facebook keeps the data in centralized servers. and it aims to sell their service to the user's based on the privacy settings.

For example you might be noted that in your profile page in the facebook they will ask for the several interest we have and we will fill that out and they will show the ads based on the interest So here our privacy is sold to other by facebook for money. Even the application In the facebook we allow to send the profile detail's.

But in the Diaspora it is just opposite the site will not make you to go through the pages of options & settings just to keep the profile secured. When the site  its first code the Diaspora  developers criticized quickly for the  multiple security bugs in the code. and even some experts questioned that whether the Diaspora  team can deliver their new vision across the globe.

And not only Diaspora there are several similar social sites - including Elgg,Appleseed & OneSocialWeb which aims to challenge the Facebook
